Dear Patient’s,
It is practice policy that we will not issue private prescriptions under the NHS until we have a letter from your consultant. According to the BMA guidelines general practitioners have no obligation to issue private prescriptions from private consultant appointments.
Private prescriptions are written medications which your private doctor has recommended for you. A private prescription is not an NHS prescription, so it is not paid for by the NHS. Some items cannot be prescribed in primary care.
If this is an issue please ask your consultant to email the letter to us and we can issue it in due course, if this is a prescription that is currently prescribed under the NHS guidelines and within our usual prescription time frames.
You still have the option of taking your private prescription to the chemist in the meantime.
Kind Regards
Emmer Green Surgery
